Abstract: Particleboard can be produced from a mixture of different lignocellulosic materials, which can be chosen depending on the density required for the panel and its applications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanical properties of particleboard with bamboo, pine and mate for a new product of high density for the special applications currently served by HDF. Particles of bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea) finely chopped sticks of mate (Ilex paraguariensis) and commercial particles of southern pine (Pinus taeda) wood were used. These particles used 100 % by weight in the panel or in mixtures of 50 % each (three mixtures) or in a triple mixture of one third each, were glued in a drum-type rotary mixer with melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin, and pressed in hydraulic press at 120 °C and 5,88 MPa for 10 minutes, up to 6 mm thickness. The panels were produced with 900 kg/m3 nominal density and, after pressing, were conditioned at 20 ºC and 65 % relative humidity. Statistical was performed by means the variance analysis and simplex centroid experimental design, with three replicates. It was found the use of pine particles contributed mainly to increase the panel's strength and stiffness, while the use of mate particles facilitated internal bond strength. The mixtures modeling showed that the water absorption, the strength and stiffness in bending and the internal bond strength are explained by the cubic model, while the thickness swelling and hardness are explained by the quadratic model. The best physical and mechanical properties results were found for the pine, bamboo and mate same ratio mixture.

Abstract: The search for new technologies to improve adhesives and the properties of reconstituted wood panels is constant, and nanotechnology is a tool for this purpose. The aim of this study is investigating the effect of adding nanocellulose in the formulation of the adhesive phenol-formaldehyde on the physico-mechanical properties of Pinus taeda plywood panels. Three ratios of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) were added to the adhesive formulation used to produce plywood panels: 0,026 %; 0,038 % or 0,064 %. The panels were tested according to the European standards; apparent density, resistance to parallel and perpendicular flexure and glue line shear strength were determined after 6 hours of boiling and after the boiling cycle for the 1st glue line (face) and 2nd glue line (core). The use of NFC in the adhesive caused an increase of viscosity and reduction of the gel time of the adhesive. The apparent density of the panels was not influenced by the addition of NFC, but the properties of parallel bending, perpendicular flexing and glue line shear were sensitive to the addition of NFC. The NR2 treatment (0,038 % NFC) presented the best results in the mechanical tests.

RESUMO Diversos estudos mostram que algumas espécies de madeira não estão aptas à produção de compósitos madeira-cimento. Isso ocorre porque os componentes orgânicos podem afetar tanto a interação entre a madeira e o cimento, quanto as interações internas do cimento. Com isso, pesquisadores vêm estudando alternativas de pré-tratamento do material de origem vegetal, como por exemplo, utilizando-se aceleradores de pega, aditivos químicos, mineralização da madeira, dentre outros. Uma das técnicas consiste no pré-tratamento da madeira com suspensão de Ca(OH)2. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da quantidade de CaO utilizada na preparação de suspensões de Ca(OH)2 nas características mecânicas de compósitos de madeira-cimento. Foram avaliados três traços de Ca(OH)2, e cinco granulometrias de partículas de Pinus spp oriundas de resíduos de madeireira, por meio da realização de ensaios de compressão axial em corpos de prova cilíndricos. Os resíduos foram secos em estufa, apresentando uma umidade de 3%, sem tratamento. A relação cimento: madeira foi de 1:1,5, em massa. As relações água/cal para produção de Ca(OH)2 foram 4,7, 6,25 e 7,8. As médias de resistências à compressão axial obtidas mostraram que os compósitos produzidos com a relação água/cal de 6,25 apresentou valores estatísticos mais altos quando comparados aos compósitos produzidos com outras relações de água/cal.

ABSTRACT In according to a lot of studies, some woods aren't able to compose the cement-wood composite. It is because the affecting of the organics components in the wood-cement interaction and the cement reactions. Then, researchers have studied an alternative to the pre-treatment using Ca(OH)2 suspensions. This study evaluated the influence of the amount of CaO used on Ca(OH)2 suspensions and how they affect the mechanical characteristics of the wood-cement composite. Three Ca(OH)2 mixtures were evaluated and five granulometries of the Pinus spp from lamber residue, through axial compression tests in cilindrical specimens. The waste woods were dried in an oven and presented a 3% moisture. The cement:wood weight ratio was 1:1,5. The water/lime ratios were 4,7/1, 6,25/1 and 7,8/1. The composites produced with water/lime ratio of the 6,25/1 presented the average axial compressive strenght higher compared with others ratios.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a influência do adesivo, das gramaturas e dos tempos de prensagem nas propriedades mecânicas de vigas laminadas coladas, confeccionadas com madeira de teca (Tectona grandis). As vigas foram produzidas com cinco lamelas, sendo duas da classe de módulo de elasticidade dinâmico, classe 1 - MOEd C1 nas faces, e três da classe 2 - MOEd C2 no miolo. Para a colagem, utilizou-se o adesivo à base de resorcina-fenol-formaldeído (RFF), com gramaturas de 350 e 450 g.m- 2, e tempos de prensagem de 5 e 8 horas. Para o adesivo à base de emulsão polimérica de isocianato (EPI), a colagem foi realizada com gramaturas de 180 e 220 g.m- 2, e tempos de prensagem de 3 e 4 horas. Os resultados das propriedades mecânicas das vigas indicaram que não houve uma relação bem definida dos efeitos das variáveis de estudo nas propriedades de flexão estática. As vigas coladas com o adesivo RFF tiveram maior resistência da linha de cola em comparação às vigas coladas com o adesivo EPI.

This research aimed to evaluate the effects of different adhesives, amounts of glue, and pressing time on the mechanical properties of glued laminated beams (glulam) made of Tectona grandis wood. The beams were produced with 5 battens: two of dynamic modulus of elasticity, class 1 - MOEd C1, on the faces; and three of class 2 - MOEd C2, in the core. Gluing was performed with the use of resorcinol-phenol-formaldehyde (RPF) adhesive at the amounts of 350 and 450 g.m- 2 and pressing time of 5 and 8 hours; and emulsion polymer isocyanate (EPI) adhesive at the amounts of 180 and 220 g.m- 2 and pressing time of 3 and 4 hours. The results of the mechanical properties of beams did not show a clear relationship of the effects of the studied variables on the evaluated properties of static bending. The beams glued with RFF adhesive presented higher resistance of the glue line compared with the beams glued with EPI adhesive.

Uma parceria entre o Laboratório de Instrumentação Geodésica e o Laboratório de Tecnologia da Madeira, ambos da Universidade Federal do Paraná, possibilitou o desenvolvimento deste projeto. Optou-se em inserir métodos geodésicos, aplicáveis ao monitoramento de estruturas, em ensaios estruturais de madeira. Realizaram-se ensaios de flexão estática em painéis compensados de madeira, com uso de uma Máquina Universal de Ensaios, aplicando-se juntamente o monitoramento de deslocamentos de pontos de interesse através do método de irradiação tridimensional. Ao final do ensaio estrutural foram analisadas e comparadas as flechas de deslocamento (deformação na componente vertical) dos corpos de prova obtidas pela máquina de ensaios e pelo monitoramento geodésico. Como também, observou-se o comportamento tridimensional dos corpos de prova no decorrer dos ensaios. Desta forma, testando técnicas e método geodésico como uma nova proposta de verificação de deslocamentos em ensaios estruturais de madeira. Estatisticamente comprovou-se que os valores dos deslocamentos centrais dos painéis - flechas máximas - obtidos pelo monitoramento geodésico foram iguais aos resultados da máquina universal de ensaios. Confirmando assim, que o método proposto e as técnicas geodésicas testadas, podem também, ser aplicadas em laboratório em ensaios estruturais de madeira.

The association between the Laboratory of Geodetic Instrumentation and the Laboratory of Wood Technology, both from the Federal University of Paraná, enabled the development of this project. It was decided to insert geodetic methods, applicable to monitoring structures, in testing structural timber. Static bending tests were done on plywood panels, using a Universal Testing Machine, the geodetic predefined monitoring points on the specimen were applied by the method of three-dimensional irradiation. At the end of the structural test the maximum deflection (deformation of the vertical component) of the specimen obtained by Universal Testing Machine and the geodetic monitoring was analysed and compered. Also, three-tridimensional behavior of the specimen during the tests was observed. Thus, testing technique and geodetic method as a new proposal for a verification of displacements for testing structural timber were used. Statistically it was shown that the values for the displacements central - maximum deflections - obtained for the geodetic monitoring were the same as the results of the machine. It was confirmed that, the proposed method and the geodetic techniques tested, may also, be applied in laboratory tests on structural wood.

RESUMO A indústria de painéis de madeira aglomerada tem utilizado grandes volumes de madeira, sobretudo de florestas plantadas de Pinus, sendo necessário diversificar espécies, bem como maximizar o uso da matéria-prima. Uma das maneiras de maximizar o uso deste recurso é a utilização da casca no processo produtivo. Desta forma, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar as propriedades físicas e mecânicas de painéis aglomerados de Acrocarpus fraxinifolius contendo diferentes percentuais de casca. Foram manufaturados painéis com 100% de partículas de madeira de Acrocarpus fraxinifolius e painéis com partículas da madeira de Acrocarpus e percentuais de casca de 10%, 20% e 30%, massa especifica nominal de 0,75 g/cm3 e 8% de resina. As propriedades de massa especifica aparente, absorção de água e inchamento em espessura, flexão estática, tração perpendicular à superfície e arrancamento de parafuso foram determinadas de acordo com as normas EN e NBR, e comparadas com um tratamento testemunha (100% Pinus taeda) e com requisitos normativos prescritos pelas respectivas normas. Os resultados demonstraram que a espécie apresenta viabilidade técnica para produção de painéis de madeira aglomerada e que a crescente adição de casca não afetou negativamente as propriedades físicas e mecânicas dos painéis.

ABSTRACT The particleboard industries have used a large volume of wood mainly from planted forest of Pinus, being necessary to diversify the wood species and optimize the use of raw material. One of the ways to optimize the use of this resource is the utilization of the bark in the particleboard manufacturing process. In this way, this research was developed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of the particleboard manufactured with the wood of Acrocarpus fraxinifolius and different proportions of the bark. The boards were manufactured with 100% of wood particles of Acrocarpus fraxinifolius and replacing the wood particles with 30%, 20% and 10% of bark, board density of 0.75 g/cm³ and 8% of urea-formaldehyde resin. The properties of board density, water absorption and thickness swelling, static bending, internal bond and screw pullout strength, were determined according to EN and NBR standards, and then compared with the standard treatment (100% Pinus taeda) and with the minimum requirements of these standards. The results indicated that Acrocarpus fraxinifolius species showed technical feasibility for particleboard production and the addition of the bark until 30% did not negatively affect the physical and mechanical properties of the boards.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a estabilidade dimensional de espécies de Pinus tropicais, além de estabelecer correlações entre a contração volumétrica, a anisotropia de contração e a massa específica. Foram utilizadas sete espécies de Pinus tropicais: Pinus caribaea var. bahamensis, Pinus caribaea var. caribaea, Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis, Pinus chiapensis, Pinus maximinoi, Pinus oocarpa e Pinus tecunumanii, mais o Pinus taeda (referência), todas provenientes de plantios experimentais com 17 e 18 anos, localizados em Ventania-PR e Itararé-SP. A estabilidade dimensional foi avaliada segundo a Norma COPANT 462 (1972c). Os resultados indicaram que o Pinus chiapensis é uma espécie pouco estável (Ac > 2,6) e as demais espécies de Pinus tropicais e o Pinus taeda apresentam estabilidade média baixa (2,1 a 2,5). As correlações entre as propriedades propostas não se apresentaram fortemente correlacionadas, provavelmente em virtude da presença de resina e extrativos, os quais alteraram a massa específica, inibindo a contração.

The objective of this research was to evaluate the dimensional stability of tropical pine species and establish correlations between shrinkage, anisotropy, and density. Seven species of tropical pines were utilized: Pinus caribaea var. bahamensis, Pinus caribaea var. caribaea, Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis, Pinus chiapensis, Pinus maximinoi, Pinus oocarpa, and Pinus tecunumanii; Pinus taeda was also used as reference. The samples were from 17 and 18-year-old experimental plantings located in the municipalities of Ventania, State of Parana and Itararé, State of Sao Paulo. Dimensional stability was evaluated according to the COPANT 462 (1972c) norm. The results indicated that Pinus chiapensis is an unstable species (Ac > 2.6), and that other tropical pine species and Pinus taeda presented low average stability (2.1 to 2.5). There were no strong correlations between the properties proposed probably due to the presence of resin and extractives, which can alter density and inhibit contraction.

Conduziu-se esta pesquisa, com o objetivo de avaliar o potencial de uso de nove espécies de Eucalyptus na produção de lâminas e painéis compensados multilaminados. As lâminas foram obtidas num torno laminador piloto com espessura nominal de 2,0 mm. Foram obtidos os valores de rendimento total e em três classes de qualidade para as nove espécies estudadas. Os painéis compensados foram produzidos em laboratório, com cinco lâminas de 2,0 mm de espessura, utilizando a resina fenol-formaldeído, com gramatura de 360 g/m² (linha dupla). Os painéis foram prensados com pressão específica de 10 kgf/cm², temperatura de 140ºC e tempo de prensagem de 10 minutos. Os resultados de laminação indicaram que, com exceção de E. phaeotricha e E. pellita, todas as demais espécies de Eucalyptus apresentaram rendimento médio em laminação acima de 50%. Os resultados de ensaios de cisalhamento da linha de cola e flexão estática paralela e perpendicular, demonstraram que as espécies de Eucalyptus grandis, Eucalyptus saligna, Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus viminalis, Eucalyptus robusta e Eucalyptus pellita, apresentam grande potencial dentro dos parâmetros estudados neste trabalho para produção de lâminas e compensados para uso exterior.

The objective of thisstudywas to evaluate the use potential of nine species of Eucalyptus for production of veneer sheets and multilaminated plywood panels. Veneers were cut using a pilot laminating lathe to a nominal thickness of 2.0 mm. Analysis included finding values of overall yield and yield according to three quality classes for the nine relevant species. Plywood panels were manufactured in a laboratory, consisting of five 2.0 mm veneer sheets which were bonded together with phenol-formaldehyde resin at a weight of 360 g/m² (double line). The panels were compressed using a specific pressure of 10 kgf/cm², a temperature of 140ºC and a pressing time of 10 minutes. Results indicated that, with the exception of E. phaeotricha and E. pellita, all other Eucalyptus species had above 50% average veneer yield after lamination. Results of glue line shear testing and static bending parallel and perpendicular demonstrated that species Eucalyptus grandis, Eucalyptus saligna, Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus viminalis, Eucalyptus robusta and Eucalyptus pellita have great potential within the parameters of this study for use in the production of veneer sheets and plywood panels intended for outdoor use.

Nesta pesquisa, objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade de painéis aglomerados homogêneos e multicamadas produzidos com madeira de Melia azedarach e Pinus taeda com diferentes teores de resina. Foram produzidos painéis experimentais com densidade nominal de 0,75 g/cm³, utilizando a resina ureia-formaldeído na proporção de 6% e 8% (sólido resinoso - base peso seco das partículas) na camada interna e de 8% e 10% nas camadas externas. Os painéis foram prensados com pressão específica de 40 kgf/cm² , temperatura de 160ºC e tempo de prensagem de 8 minutos. As avaliações das propriedades físicas e mecânicas dos painéis indicaram um grande potencial da espécie Melia azedarach para a produção de painéis aglomerados. O aumento no teor de resina das camadas interna e externa melhoram as propriedades de absorção de água e inchamento em espessura. Entretanto, as propriedades mecânicas não foram afetadas.

This research was developed to evaluate the quality of homogeneous and multilayer particleboards manufactured from Melia azedarach wood and Pinus taeda with different resin contents. The experimental boards were manufactured with the nominal density of 0,75 g/cm³, using the urea-formaldehyde resin in the proportion of 6% and 8% (solid content based on oven dried wood particles) in the internal layer and 8% and 10% in the external layers. The boards were pressed at the specific pressure of 40 kgf/cm² , temperature of 160ºC and press time of 8 minutes. The evaluations of the physical and mechanical properties of the boards showed the high potentiality of Melia azedarach for particleboard manufacture. The increase of resin content in the internal and external layers improved the properties of water absorption and thickness swelling. However, the mechanical properties were not affected.

RESUMO Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a influência de diferentes composições estruturais sobre as propriedades mecânicas de painéis compensados de Pinus maximinoi, Pinus oocarpa e Pinus tecunumannii. Foram produzidos em laboratório painéis compensados com sete lâminas de 3,0 mm de espessura, com composição padrão, reforço longitudinal e reforço transversal. Para a colagem de lâminas foi utilizada resina fenol-formaldeído com a seguinte formulação em partes por peso: resina = 100, extensor = 10 e água = 10. A gramatura empregada foi 160 g/m² (linha simples). Os painéis foram prensados à temperatura de 150ºC, pressão específica de 15 kgf/cm² e tempo de prensagem de 15 minutos. Para avaliação das propriedades mecânicas foram realizados os ensaios de flexão estática paralela e perpendicular à direção das fibras das lâminas das capas. Os painéis de Pinus maximinoi apresentaram resultados médios superiores de MOE e MOR paralelo e perpendicular em relação aos painéis de Pinus oocarpa e Pinus tecunumannii. Os painéis produzidos com as três espécies estudadas apresentaram resultados satisfatórios de MOE e MOR, paralelo e perpendicular, em comparação aos painéis compensados comerciais produzidos de Pinus taeda. As inclusões de reforço longitudinal e transversal não influenciaram significativamente nos resultados médios de MOE e MOR paralelo. O reforço longitudinal afetou negativamente os resultados médios de MOE e MOR perpendicular.

ABSTRACT This study was developed to evaluate the effects of different compositions of plywood of Pinus maximinoi, Pinus oocarpa e Pinus tecunumannii. Were manufactured in laboratory plywood composed by seven veneer with 3,0 mm thickness, with standard composition, longitudinal reinforced composition and transversal reinforced composition. Were used for veneer gluing the phenol- formaldehyde resin with the following formulation in parts of weight: resin = 100, extender = 10 and water = 10. The amount of glue spread was 160 g/m² (one side layer). The boards were pressed at temperature of 150ºC, specific pressure of 15 kgf/ cm² and press time of 15 minutes. Were realized static bending tests in the parallel and cross direction. The boards of Pinus maximinoi showed better results in MOE and MOR, parallel and cross direction in comparison to boards of Pinus oocarpa and Pinus tecunumannii. The boards made from three species showed satisfactory results of MOE and MOR, parallel and cross direction, in comparison to commercial plywood of Pinus taeda. The veneer reinforced in to parallel and cross direction not influenced significantly in the results of MOE and MOR parallel direction. The longitudinal veneer reinforced plywood affects poorly the results of MOE and MOR in the cross direction.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a qualidade de painéis compensados estruturais produzidos com lâminas de Eucalyptus saligna e Pinus caribaea var. caribaea, var. hondurensis e var. bahamensis com diferentes composições de lâminas. Foram produzidos painéis experimentais com dimensões de 50 x 50 cm, utilizando-se cinco lâminas de 2,2 mm, com as seguintes composições: (1) painéis com todas as lâminas de mesma espécie/variedades (T1, T2, T3 e T4); e (2) painéis com lâminas de Eucalyptus saligna de forma intercalada com as lâminas de três variedades de Pinus caribaea (T5 a T10). Os painéis produzidos exclusivamente com lâminas de Eucalyptus saligna apresentaram valores superiores de resistência da linha de cola aos esforços de cisalhamento, MOE e MOR paralelo e perpendicular. A composição dos painéis com lâminas das duas espécies/variedades de forma intercalada não influenciou, de forma significativa, a resistência da linha de cola e MOE e MOR perpendicular. A disposição das lâminas de Eucalyptus saligna na capa dos compensados resultou em maiores valores de MOE e MOR paralelo. Os resultados das propriedades mecânicas avaliadas foram satisfatórios, em comparação com os valores de referência apresentados na literatura e com aqueles requisitos mínimos requeridos pela norma técnica, indicando a viabilidade de produção de painéis compensados do tipo "combi" com combinação de espécies de folhosas e coníferas.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the quality of structural plywood manufactured with veneers of Eucalyptus saligna and Pinus caribaea var. caribaea, var. hondurensis, var. bahamensis, using different board compositions. It was manufactured experimental panels measuring 50 x 50 cm composed by 5 veneers with 2.2 mm thickness, according to following compositions: (1) panels with all veneers of Eucalytpus saligna and Pinuscaribaea (T1 to T4); (2) panels with veneers of Eucalyptus saligna mixed with Pinus caribaea (T5 to T10). The panels completely manufactured with veneers of Eucalyptus saligna showed higher values of glue line shear strength, parallel and perpendicular MOE and MOR. The panel compositions using the veneers of both species with alternate position in the layer did not effectively influence the properties of glue line shear strength, perpendicular MOE and MOR. The placing of Eucalyptus saligna veneers on the face of plywood resulted in higher values of parallel MOE and MOR. The results of mechanical properties of plywood evaluated in this study were satisfactory in comparison to the control values of the literature and with those the minimum values required by technical standards, indicating the feasibility of production of "combi" type plywood using different veneer combination of hardwood and softwood species.

Abstract This paper was developed to evaluate the quality of laminated veneer lumber - LVL manufactured from woods of E. grandis Hill ex Maiden and E. dunnii Maiden. The boards were produced with three different compositions, as follows: (i) randomly selected veneer in the face; (ii) higher density veneer in the face and lower density veneer in the core; and (iii) randomly selected veneers of E. grandis and E. dunnii in the face and veneers of P. taeda in the core. The results showed higher glue line shear strength of the boards of E. grandis in comparison of the boards of E. dunnii. However, the boards of E. dunnii showed higher values of the MOE and MOR in static bending tests. The composition with higher density veneer in the face increases the values of MOE and OMR of the boards of E. dunnii. The overall results of this research indicate that wood of E. grandis and E. dunnii presents high potential to production of laminated veneer lumber - LVL.

Resumo Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com objetivo de avaliar a qualidade dos painéis laminados unidirecional - LVL produzidos com madeiras de E. grandis Hill ex Maiden e E. dunni Maideni. Os painéis foram produzidos com três diferentes composições, sendo: (i) lâminas selecionadas aleatoriamente; (ii) lâminas mais densas nas faces e menos densas no miolo; e (iii) lâminas de E. grandis / E. dunnii selecionadas aleatoriamente nas faces e P. taeda no miolo. Os resultados demonstraram maior resistência da linha de cola às tensões de cisalhamento dos painéis de E. grandis em relação aos painéis de E. dunnii. Entretanto, os painéis de E. dunnii apresentaram maiores valores de MOE e MOR em flexão estática. A composição com lâminas mais densas nas faces resultou em maiores valores de MOE e MOR nos painéis de E. dunnii. Os resultados gerais desta pesquisa indicam que as madeiras de E. grandis e E. dunnii apresentam grande potencial para produção de painéis laminados unidirecional - LVL.

RESUMO Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com objetivo de avaliar a viabilidade de utilização de madeiras de Eucalyptus grandis e Eucalyptus dunnii para produção de painéis OSB. Foram produzidos em laboratório painéis com densidade nominal de 0,70 e 1,0 g/cm³, com 100% de partículas de Pinus taeda, Eucalyptus grandis e Eucalyptus dunnii, além de painéis com mistura de 50% de Pinus taeda na camada interna do painel, com 50% de Eucalyptus grandis e 50% de Eucalyptus dunnii.. Os painéis de Eucalyptus grandis com densidade de 0,70 g/cm³, considerada padrão comercial, apresentaram valores de propriedades compatíveis com os requisitos da norma canadense (CSA) e européia EN, e também em relação aos painéis de Pinus taeda usados como testemunhas. Os resultados dos ensaios mecânicos demonstraram incremento expressivo nos valores de MOE e MOR em flexão estática com aumento na densidade do painel, abrindo a probabilidade de uso de painéis com maior densificação para aplicações que requeiram maior resistência do painel OSB. Os resultados desta pesquisa indicam a viabilidade de utilização de madeira de Eucalyptus grandis como espécie alternativa para produção de painéis OSB no Brasil.

ABSTRACT This study was developed to evaluate the feasibility of OSB manufacturing using woods of Eucalyptus grandis and Eucalyptus dunnii. Boards with nominal density of 0,70 g/cm³ and 1,0 g/cm³ were manufactured in laboratory, using 100% of wood particles from Pinus taeda, Eucalyptus grandis and Eucalyptus dunnii, and mixtures of 50% of Pinus taeda in the internal layer of the board, with 50% of Eucalyptus grandis and 50% of Eucalyptus dunnii. The boards of Eucalyptus grandis with density of 0,70 g/cm³, as standard board density, showed the values of properties compatible with the requirements of the Canadian and European Standards and also in relation of boards manufactured from Pinus taeda. The results of the mechanical properties showed an increase in the MOE and MOR in static bending with the increase in the board density, opening the possibility to use the high density OSB for applications requiring higher strength. The results of this research indicate that wood of Eucalyptus grandis can be used as alternative specie to OSB manufacturing in the Brazil.

ABSTRACT This paper was developed to evaluate the quality of structural plywood using the phenolic surface film. The plywoods were manufactured using five veneer of Pinus taeda with 2 mm thickness. The boards were pressed with temperature of 140ºC and 160ºC; specific pressure of 1,5 and 2,0 MPa; press time to achieve the temperature of resin curing, plus 1 and 2 minutes. The results of the glue line tests - dry and humity, showed that the use of press temperature of 160ºC and specific pressure of 2,0 MPa, are the better conditions to plywood manufatures using phenolic surface film. Using the better conditions of press parameters to board pressing, the plywood manufactured with phenolic surface film could present higher bonding quality in comparison to plywood manufactured with the liquid phenolic resin.

RESUMO Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar a qualidade de compensados estruturais com colagem à base de papel impregnado com resina fenólica - filme fenólico. Foram produzidos compensados compostos de cinco lâminas de Pinus taeda com 2 mm de espessura. Os painéis foram prensados com temperatura de 140ºC e 160ºC; pressão específica de 1,5 e 2,0 Mpa, tempo de prensagem real e acrescidos de 1 e 2 minutos. Os resultados da resistência da linha de cola nos testes seco e de fervura demonstraram que o emprego de temperatura de 160ºC e pressão específica de 2,0 MPa seriam as condições mais adequadas para a prensagem de painéis compensados com filme fenólico. Com o emprego de condições adequadas de prensagem, os compensados produzidos com filme fenólico podem apresentar qualidade de colagem superior em relação aos compensados produzidos com resina fenólica na forma líquida.
